After spending hours tunnelling through to the concrete vault the projector told them about, Burke activates the long-silent, centuries-old computers (in reality a genuinely archaic—but still impressive-looking—1950’s U.S. Government SAGE system). While the vault may contain the sum of all the knowledge humankind accumulated prior to the holocaust that destroyed civilisation, to judge from what we can see here, it does not contain the fugitives’s backpacks. In their eagerness to restore wisdom to the world, the fugitive duo appear to have forgotten to bring their luggage with them—unless they left it outside the vault entrance.
