Roddy McDowall undergoes the grueling transformation -- it takes at least three hours -- from Homo sapiens to simian for his starring role as Galen, a chimpanzee, in the new “Planet of the Apes” series premiering Friday, Sept. 13 (8:00-9:00 PM, EDT) on the CBS Television Network. Besides special materials (foam rubber, glue, hair, make-up) the process takes lots of skill and patience.
