The backpacks make their debut, in an early scene from the first episode to be filmed, The Good Seeds. An explanation of where the fugitives acquired their baggage is conspicuously absentpresumably because there was a Network expectation at that time that segments of a continuing series should be suitable for screening in any order (and, indeed, The Good Seeds was the fourth segment to be aired), and therefore self-contained. Even such a minor event as picking up luggage would too readily imbue the story with a very definite position in the series chronolgy and was therefore ommittedeven though there are some episodes which did contain specific references to preceding events. As an aside, its great to see how sweaty and grubby Virdon, Burke, and Galen areadding to a sense of credibilty. They really do look as if they have been climbing hills all day. |
