Virdon and Burke carry the injured Galen on an improvised stretcher without realising, as yet, that they have passed through the boundary of the tenant farm worked by the chimpanzee Polar and his family. While Burke is still wearing his backpack, and Galen’s is being used as a head rest, Virdon’s seems to have vanished. The following shot in this sequence, however, shows that it has been incorporated into the stretcher—a tribute to the imagination of someone on the crew! If you look carefully at this shot, you can see one of the flaps is hanging down in shadow!
