For me, this was yet another beautifully constructed, memorable conclusion to an Apes segment, underscored by a unique cue specially composed for the scene by Lionel Newmanwhose contribution, remarkably, went uncredited. With great tenderness, Burke kisses Fauna goodbye, in a scene that demonstrates how the dark-haired astronauts experiences on the Planet of the Apes are changing him. There is, however, one aspect of this storys denoument which echoes all that has gone before: once again, our heroes head for the horizon unencumbered by any luggage. The only difference here is that subsequent episodes will demonstrate that their bag-less condition has become permanent. |
