As the final moments of the “Planet of the Apes” series unfold before us, and the birdsong-like notes of Lalo Schifrin’s evocative cue, “A Beginning” tremble in the air, Virdon, Burke, Galen and Leuric converge on the raft that first transported our heroes to freedom at the conclusion of “Tomorrow’s Tide”. It’s about to perform a similar function here, and even if the fugitives still had their backpacks by this time, it’s unlikely they’d burden their means of escape with them. Even so, with our heroes bags and baggage having failed to make any appearance in this tale, it seems only fair to conclude that it was all lost somewhere on the road far behind them…
