Under cover of darkness, Galen betrays the trust his hosts have placed in him, and uses the freedom he has been blessed with to try and liberate his fellow fugitives. Given that the renegade chimpanzee was considered a guest at this stage, and presumably had access to his backpack, it is curious that he didnt bring it with him as part of his plan of escape. Was he intending to return to the hut he had been allocated to collect his belongings after releasing Virdon and Burke? Was he, perhaps, intending to then search for their backpacks as well? It seems unlikely hed risk their being recaptured for the sake of a couple of blankets. As it is, Galen was soon to discover that his hosts were not quite so trusting as they appeared
